Braves Win Squeaker, 6-5, Over Giants
|
Behind the hitting of Marcus Giles, the Atlanta Braves clipped the San Francisco Giants, 6-5. Giles was 3 for 4 with 3 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 times for the Braves. The win went to John Rocker in relief, making him now 2-0. Brian Wilson took the loss for San Francisco. The Braves are now 20-18, while the Giants fall to 22-17.
Had Freddie Freeman not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Freeman hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Braves.
"We ground out the win," said Freeman. "That's all that matters."
