The Atlanta Braves picked up a win at Turner Field, dropping the Chicago Cubs, 4-3, in 10 innings. Warren Spahn was the difference-maker. Atlanta reliever John Smoltz picked up the win, raising his record to 1-2. Sean Marshall was tagged with the loss. The Braves bumped their record to 19-18 with this latest triumph.

The Braves got a clutch hit from right fielder Hank Aaron. In the bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring single to right, to win the game for the Braves.

"That was a backyard tug-of-war," said Braves manager .
