Mariners Lose, 6-3, to Kansas City
|
With center fielder Carlos Beltran leading the charge, the Kansas City Royals defeated the Seattle Mariners, 6-3, at Safeco Field. Beltran, who is tied for 3rd in the AL in stolen bases with 13, went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times. Kevin Appier got the win, improving to 2-5. He worked 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Jeff Montgomery nailed down the save.
The Royals had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 6-3, Kansas City, with one out. Seattle, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Alex Rodriguez dug in at the plate, but on a full count fastball, he hit into a double play.
The Royals, at 16-21, inhabit third place in the American League Central Division.
