The Oakland Athletics knocked off the Washington Nationals, 4-3, in American League action at O.co Coliseum. Oakland pitcher and Bradford, Pennsylvania, native Rube Waddell had an outstanding performance. Waddell, now 3-3, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 5, and allowing 3 runs. With the win over Washington, the Athletics improved to 19-18.
Rickey Henderson, who leads the AL in stolen bases with 15, aided the Oakland cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the left fielder drove in one run.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Washington manager said, following the tough loss.
