Detroit Pockets 5-3 Win Over Minnesota
|
Detroit Tigers starter Hal Newhouser was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Minnesota Twins, 5-3. Willie Hernandez zipped up his 6th save. The Tigers have now won 4 straight.
Al Kaline had a big run-scoring double for the Tigers in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Walter Johnson and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tigers ahead, 2-0.
"Hal was really on it," said Detroit manager . "He's got a feel for playing with the hitter front-to-back, side-to-side."
