Marlins designated hitter Miguel Cabrera left his mark on his team's 7-4 win over the San Diego Padres. Cabrera, who is the 2nd-best prospect in the Marlins organization, was 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for Miami in the contest. Juan Carlos Oviedo, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Miami is now 17-18, San Diego 24-12.
Miami needed the clutch hitting of Giancarlo Stanton to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Marlins on top, 7-4. For the game, Stanton had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
In postgame remarks, Cabrera said: "I'm proud of our guys, of their fight."
