Mets Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The New York Mets rode a solid performance from 20-year-old starting pitcher Dwight Gooden to a win, beating the Miami Marlins, 2-1, at Marlins Ballpark. New York pitcher Tug McGraw got the win. He's now 3-1. Bryan Harvey was tagged with the loss. John Franco closed out the game, earning his 3rd save.
Todd Hundley had a direct impact on the outcome. Hundley contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put New York up, 2-1.
"Tough loss," said Miami manager . "This one will sting for a while."
With the loss, Miami sinks to 16-16.
