Detroit Tigers starter Hal Newhouser kept the Houston Astros hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 6-2 win. The Tigers, with only their 8th win in 30 games, could be the worst team in the league.

In the bottom of the second, Detroit right fielder Sam Crawford had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Crawford stroked a 2-run single to right. It made the score 4-1, Detroit. For the game, he went 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
