Skidding Rockies Lose 11th Straight
|
A good performance from first baseman Pete Alonso helped the New York Mets defeat the Colorado Rockies, 9-5. Alonso went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Mets. Sid Fernandez was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Mike Hampton. Picking up the save was 29-year old right-handed pitcher Skip Lockwood.
David Wright was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs for New York. The 24-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Mike Hampton. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"It was a pretty good night," said Alonso.
Colorado, now 6-26, has gotten off to a terrible start.
