Nationals 5-3 Victors Over Philadelphia
|
Philadelphia got a big-time effort from pitcher Chris Short, but it wasn't enough to keep the Washington Nationals from winning the game, 5-3. Short threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Despite the win, Washington, now 8-21, is off to a terrible start.
Washington used a clutch at-bat from Nick Johnson to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Nationals ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Nationals manager . "This one was nice to get."
