Padres Edge Giants, 4-3
|
The San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants, 4-3, in National League action at AT&T Park. San Diego pitcher Jake Peavy had a standout performance. San Diego reliever Scott Linebrink picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Joe McGinnity absorbed the loss. Trevor Hoffman collected save number 6.
San Diego used the timely hitting of Tony Gwynn Sr to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Padres on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said San Francisco skipper , "and it cost us."
The Padres, now 19-10, have been red hot.
