The Chicago Cubs stopped the Cincinnati Reds, 12-3, behind an impressive performance from Joe Tinker. The 22-year old shortstop made life miserable for Cincinnati pitching. He went 3-4 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The winning pitcher was 29-year old right-handed pitcher Mordecai Brown. The game turned with two out in the top of the fourth. That's when Tinker hit a 2-run single off Mario Soto. It propelled the Cubs into the lead, 3-1.
