The Texas Rangers picked up a win at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, dropping the Oakland Athletics, 5-4. Fergie Jenkins, who is tied for 6th in the AL in strikeouts with 37, was the difference-maker. Texas, now 9-19, is off to a slow start.

Rafael Palmeiro took Oakland hurler Chief Bender deep in the bottom of the sixth. His solo home run put the Rangers on top, 5-4. In all, Palmeiro had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Fergie was locating, throwing all of his pitches," said Texas manager . "He did a heck of a job."
