Trammell Clubs 2 Home Runs in 8-3 Detroit Win
|
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox, 8-3. Shortstop Alan Trammell deserved a large share of the credit. Trammell belted 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Tigers. Hal Newhouser, who went 7.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 2-4. The Tigers with just their 7th win in 25 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
Ty Cobb had a big 2-run triple for the Tigers in the top of the sixth inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Red Faber and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tigers ahead, 3-0.
"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Tigers manager .
