Win Lifts Mets to 15-11
|
New York and Philadelphia duked it out and the Mets came out victorious.
The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-4, with major props going to second baseman Jeff McNeil. On the day, McNeil went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Mets. Jacob deGrom earned the win for New York. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 3-2. Picking up the save was 27-year old left-handed pitcher John Franco.
New York used the timely hitting of Todd Hundley to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mets on top, 7-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If it's down the middle," said McNeil, "you might as well hit it."
The loss puts Philadelphia at 17-10.
