Pirates Eke Out 7-6 Win Versus Chicago
The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates delighted fans at PNC Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Cubs, 7-6, at PNC Park. Pittsburgh pitcher Howie Camnitz, in particular, had a standout performance. Camnitz, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Stan Belinda earned the save for Pittsburgh, his 1st.

Willie Stargell hit a 3-run home run off Rick Sutcliffe in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Pirates ahead, 5-2. In addition to the homer, Stargell had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.

"Howie pumped strikes and he made good pitches when he had to," said Pittsburgh manager .

The defeat makes Chicago 1-1.
