The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants treated fans to some rich drama.
The San Diego Padres faced a tough opponent in San Francisco pitcher Joe McGinnity, but found a way to pull out the victory at Petco Park by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings. McGinnity went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Early on, the Padres, at 13-5, have put the pedal to the metal.
The decisive blow was delivered by Benito Santiago in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 23-year old right-handed pitcher Rod Beck to win the game for San Diego. The home crowd went nuts.
"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Santiago said.
