Royals Come Back Late to Top Twins, 5-2

Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins.
Starting pitcher Kevin Appier took care of business, helping the Kansas City Royals stifle the Minnesota Twins, 5-2. Appier got the win, improving to 1-3. He gave up 5 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Jeff Montgomery earned save number 5.
Kansas City went up, 4-2, on George Brett's 2nd home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which Brett hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Minnesota pitcher Bert Blyleven shaking his head.
In postgame comments to the Kansas City Today, Brett said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The loss makes Minnesota 8-9.
