Late Rally by Cardinals Seals 5th Straight Win
|
Led by Joe Torre, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Washington Nationals, 7-5. Torre went 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Cardinals. Al Hrabosky picked up the save, his 3rd. With the win, St. Louis elevates its record to 11-7.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Ozzie Smith came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg, he hit a 1-1 sinker for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Louis on top, 7-5.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Torre.
