Ruffing Excels, New York Wins Round 3 Game 1
|
The Round 3 got off to a quiet start, with the host New York Yankees taking a low-scoring, 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres. New York right-hander Red Ruffing was marvelous at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
New York took control in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Bill Dickey hit a 2-run single to make it 3-1, Yankees.
"You never want to start a series with a loss, but I saw a lot of good things today," Padres manager said. "I'm not worrying. Yet."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Yankee Stadium in New York.
