New York first baseman Lou Gehrig couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the Round 2.

"It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Gehrig moments after his club eliminated the Cleveland Indians to advance to the Round 3.

New York won the final game by a score of 2-1 at Yankee Stadium and took the series 4-2.

"We won the series and that's the main thing," Gehrig said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted."

For the series, Gehrig hit .435 with a .440 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 5 runs.

"He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Cleveland manager .

The New York Yankees will play against the San Diego Padres in the next round. San Diego won their series against the Atlanta Braves 4 games to 1. The Round 3 schedule will be announced after the Round 2 finishes.
