Pittsburgh Breaks Through for First Win in Round 1; Now Trails 3-1
The Pittsburgh Pirates have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Atlanta Braves, winning, 5-3, at PNC Park. Pirates left-hander Bob Veale threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Pirates to 3-1 in the best-of-7 Round 1.

Roberto Clemente helped out the Pittsburgh cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the designated hitter was 2-4 with a double.

"We're happy," Veale told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
