The Los Angeles Angels got a stellar performance from pitcher Frank Tanana, who handcuffed the Detroit offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Comerica Tigers Park. Tanana picked up the win for Los Angeles, going 8 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 2-1. Troy Percival nailed down his 5th save.

Los Angeles used a well-timed hit by Fred Lynn to capture the win. The center fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Angels ahead, 5-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Losing feels worse," said Detroit manager , "than winning feels good."

Now 4-11, the Tigers have gotten off to a poor start.
