Yankees, Indians Play 10 to Settle Game 2, New York Now Leads Series 2-0
|
A big day at the plate from designated hitter Jose Ramirez was not enough to keep the New York Yankees from extending their lead in the Round 2. The Yankees topped Ramirez and the Cleveland Indians, 5-4, at Yankee Stadium in Game 2, and now hold a 2-0 edge in the best-of-7 series. Ramirez was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times in the loss.
The decisive blow was delivered by Mickey Mantle in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a solo home run off 32-year old right-handed pitcher Rafael Betancourt to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.
"We're not going to sweep 'em," Mantle said in response to a question after the game. "Cleveland is too good not to take a game somewhere."
Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
