Round 2 Game 1 Goes to New York, Thanks to Gomez
|
The New York Yankees powered past the visiting Cleveland Indians, 4-1, in the opener of the Round 2 at Yankee Stadium. New York starting pitcher Lefty Gomez threw 6.2 innings allowing 1 run, to lead the charge. The Yankees now lead the series 1-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, New York left fielder Joe DiMaggio had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and no one out, DiMaggio stroked a run-scoring double to left. It made the score 1-0, New York. For the game, he was 1-4 with a double.
"Postseason wins taste oh so sweet," said Gomez after the game.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Yankee Stadium in New York.
