Yankees Move on to Round 2
|
The New York Yankees took time to celebrate with the New York fans who stuck around after the game, following the team's Round 1 triumph over the Seattle Mariners.
Members of the Yankees hung around chatting, high-fiving and taking pictures with the New York fans in attendance at Yankee Stadium, long after the last pitch had been thrown in their 10-2 win to seal the series 4-2.
"We've got great fan support," said left fielder Babe Ruth. "Whether we're at home or on the road, the fans support us. So we wanted to show them how important that is to us. Some Seattle fans that were there even congratulated us on the win."
For the series, Ruth hit .375 with a .464 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, 7 RBI and scored 7 runs.
Things weren't so cordial on the Mariners side of things. Their clubhouse was closed to media after the game and all players and coaches quickly dressed and left the stadium after the end to their season.
The New York Yankees don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Cleveland Indians - Oakland Athletics series. Cleveland leads the series 3 games to 2. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
