The Seattle Mariners took down the New York Yankees by the score of 6-3 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Round 1. The largest share of the credit belongs to Seattle starter Randy D Johnson, who threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball.

It could have been a different outcome for Seattle, had it not been for Alvin Davis, the 29-year old first baseman . Davis contributed a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Seattle up, 5-0.

"Ever since we qualified for the playoffs, the guys have been razzing me about how I'm going to embarrass myself out there," the rookie Davis said with a smile. "I'm glad to prove them wrong, at least for a day."

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Safeco Field in Seattle.
