Ruth Blasts Mariners, Yankees Take Game 1, 8-7
|
The New York Yankees took the first game of the Round 1 in dramatic fashion, topping the Seattle Mariners, 8-7, in an extra-inning walk-off win. Yankees designated hitter Babe Ruth was 5-6 with a home run and 4 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 3rd and two out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when pinch hitter Bernie F Williams hit a run-scoring single. The Yankees went on to win.
"There's nothing like the postseason," said Ruth, "to ramp up the pressure."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Yankee Stadium in New York.
