Brewers Lose, 2-1, as Pirates Rally
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates earned a win at PNC Park, knocking off the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-1. On the bump for Pittsburgh was right-hander Howie Camnitz. He had a starring role in the triumph. Kent Tekulve earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 5-3. The first-place Pirates are now 92-71, the Brewers 91-72.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 1-1, 31-year old left fielder Fred Clarke won it for Pittsburgh. With a runner on 2nd, Clarke hit a first pitch fastball from Rollie Fingers for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 2-1 win.
"That's a good team across the field," said Pirates manager . "Every time you play a team like that, you know you're going to be in a battle."
