Royals Beat White Sox, 5-1
|
Kansas City starter Kevin Appier pitched effectively against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-1. Appier, now 11-13, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 0, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Kansas City currently is in first place in the American League Central Division at 85-76.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Mike Sweeney to capture the win. The first baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals on top, 5-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Winning is not something we take for granted," Sweeney said.
