Pittsburgh Pirates starter Doug Drabek pitched his team past the Atlanta Braves, 5-2. The winning pitcher was Drabek, now 17-6. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. Stan Belinda earned the save, his 3rd, for the Pirates.
In the top of the first, Andrew McCutchen delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Pittsburgh center fielder hit a 2-run single, putting the Pirates in front, 5-2.
"Doug was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Pittsburgh manager .
Pittsburgh, at 88-71, sits in second place in the National League Central Division.
