Mariners Lose By a Run at Toronto
In a well-pitched game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners, pitcher Dave Stieb was fantastic. The Toronto right-hander helped his team secure the win, 2-1. Duane Ward picked up the save for Toronto, his 35th of the year. The Blue Jays, at 82-77, sit in third place in the American League Eastern Division.

The Blue Jays got an important contribution from catcher Buck Martinez, who in the bottom of the fifth knocked a first pitch fastball to left for a run-scoring double. It was his 19th double of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 2-0.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Martinez told the Toronto Citizen.
