Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 7-5, to Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park. Gomez hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Cincinnati occupies 4th place in the National League Central Division at 78-80.

Cincinnati shortstop Barry Larkin said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the sixth. He did more than that -- Larkin hit a solo home run to stake Cincinnati to a 5-4 lead. His 15th home run of the season came off Milwaukee pitcher Mike Caldwell.

"It was a solid team effort," said Larkin after the game.
