Mets Deny Nationals, 4-2
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the New York Mets and Washington Nationals were able to complete their ballgame.
New York pitcher Dwight Gooden did his part in helping his team beat the Washington Nationals, 4-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Gooden got the win, improving to 11-10. He gave up 5 hits and walked 2 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. John Franco earned save number 16 this season.
The Mets benefited from a costly error in the top of the eighth. With Francisco Lindor at bat and New York leading 3-2, the Washington miscue allowed New York to plate 1 and take the lead, 4-2.
Lindor called it "a solid win."
The Mets move to 79-78 with the win, while the Nationals drop to 67-90.
