The Los Angeles Dodgers knocked off the Chicago Cubs, 8-3, in National League action at Wrigley Field. Los Angeles pitcher and Clio, Michigan, native Don Sutton had an outstanding performance. The winner was Sutton. He threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Lee Smith. With the win, Los Angeles upped its record to 80-76.
The Dodgers benefited from an error in the top of the second inning. Los Angeles was leading 1-0 when Pee Wee Reese hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Los Angeles in front, 3-0.
"When you win, you always have confidence," said Los Angeles skipper . "Nobody likes to lose. Losing is a downer. That's how we look at it. It's always good to win."
