Chicago turned a good performance from starting pitcher Hippo Vaughn into a 5-2 triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field. Vaughn, now 13-12, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Chicago is third in the National League Central Division with a record of 81-74.
The Cubs got a big hit from first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Sandy Koufax in the bottom of the fifth, Rizzo pounded a 2-run triple to right. His 3rd triple of the season put the Cubs ahead, 4-1.
"We all want to win," said Rizzo. "We all want to do our part."
