The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays squared off at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Yankees knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-3, in American League action at Yankee Stadium. New York pitcher and Brooklyn, New York, native Waite Hoyt had an outstanding performance. With the win over Toronto, the Yankees improved to 96-56.

New York took the lead, 6-3, on Joe DiMaggio's 29th double of the season. The 2-run double, which DiMaggio hit in the bottom of the seventh, made Toronto pitcher Scott Downs wince.

"Banging out wins is what it's all about," said DiMaggio.
