Mariners Take Down Angels, 7-3
|
The Seattle Mariners racked up a win at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, bumping off the Los Angeles Angels, 7-3. Felix Hernandez, who started for Seattle, pitched effectively for his team. Hernandez picked up the win for Seattle, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 10-12. The Mariners sit in second place in the American League Western Division with a record of 83-69.
The Angels had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Mariners going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the slick-fielding center fielder Ken Griffey Jr came to the plate. Griffey Jr hit a solo home run on a 0-2 curveball from Los Angeles hurler Andy Messersmith. It was Griffey Jr's 31st home run of the year.
"Things didn't bounce our way," said Los Angeles skipper .
