Brewers Take Tight Tangle
|
The Milwaukee Brewers picked up a win at Busch Stadium, dropping the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, in 10 innings. Teddy Higuera, who is tied for 5th in the NL in strikeouts with 184, was the difference-maker. Milwaukee pitcher Rollie Fingers earned the win, hiking his record to 9-3. Al Hrabosky suffered the loss. Earning the save was Dan Plesac. He's now cashed in 9 of 13 save opportunities.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Carlos Gomez? The 28-year old center fielder Gomez stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Milwaukee up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"You can never predict what'll happen," Gomez said. "That's why you play the game."
Milwaukee goes to 88-64, St. Louis to 75-77.
