Atlanta Triumphs with Late Surge
The Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Atlanta Braves besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Washington third baseman Tim Wallach by beating the Nationals, 7-6, at Turner Field. Wallach was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times. Atlanta pitcher John Smoltz earned the win, hiking his record to 6-7. John Wetteland suffered the loss. Craig Kimbrel finished the game for Atlanta and earned his 33rd save.

Atlanta took a 7-5 lead on Sam Jethroe's 4th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Jethroe hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Washington pitcher John Wetteland visibly frustrated.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Jethroe said.

The win for the Braves lifted their record to 85-67.
