Parker Excels in 6-1 Pittsburgh Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates stopped the Boston Red Sox, 6-1, at PNC Park. The Pirates got a big game from Dave Parker, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 and driving in 2. Babe Adams got the win, improving to 10-8. He held the Red Sox to 1 run on 4 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 2. The win puts the Pirates at 83-68, while the Red Sox drop to 80-72.
Andrew McCutchen had a big 2-run double for the Pirates in the bottom of the first inning. With Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a screwball from Cy Young and swatted a double to left. It was his 31st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pirates ahead, 3-0.
"Solid performance from our side," said Pirates manager .
