The Minnesota Twins topped the Detroit Tigers, 4-2, in American League action at Target Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Minnesota pitcher Bert Blyleven. In 7.2 innings, Blyleven surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Earning his 4th save for Minnesota was Al Worthington.

The Twins got a big hit from third baseman Cecil Travis. In the bottom of the sixth, Travis smacked a 2-run double off Detroit pitcher Hal Newhouser. It was his 29th double of the season. Suddenly, the Twins were ahead, 3-2.

"Winning is not something we take for granted," Travis said.
