The Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves, 8-4, at Turner Field. Andre Dawson, in particular, was impressive. He went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The last-place Nationals are 67-84.

Washington used the timely hitting of Rusty Staub to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"It's nice to see a lot of guys make contributions," said Nationals manager .
