|
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres, 5-3, in National League action at Petco Park. Philadelphia pitcher Pete Alexander had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Alexander, now 16-10. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Erskine Mayer was called on to finish, recording his 41st save.
Richie Ashburn aided the Philadelphia cause with a 2-run double in the top of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Winning is not something we take for granted," Ashburn said.
