The Washington Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves, 8-6, at Turner Field. Washington center fielder Andre Dawson led the way. He went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 and driving in 2. Washington reliever Tim Burke picked up the win, upping his record to 2-4. John Smoltz took the loss. Tyler Clippard locked down his 32nd save.

Anthony Rendon went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs against the Braves. With the game tied in the top of the ninth inning, he hit a sacrifice fly that put Washington in front, 7-6.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Washington skipper .

At 66-84, the Nationals are currently last in the National League Eastern Division.
