Late Rally Leads to 3-2 Mariners Triumph
The Los Angeles Angels could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Frank Tanana into a win. Instead, the Seattle Mariners prevailed, 3-2. Tanana threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball. J J Putz, credited with the win in relief, is now 6-2. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings. Kazuhiro Sasaki was credited with the save, his 31st in 36 tries.

Seattle used the timely hitting of Ichiro Suzuki to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mariners on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It was a solid team effort," Suzuki said. "That's usually what it takes to win."

The loss makes Los Angeles 63-87.
