Nationals Bump Off Mets, 3-2
|
The Washington Nationals and New York Mets played an entertaining game for Citi Field patrons.
The New York Mets got a superb performance from pitcher Jerry Koosman, but the Washington Nationals still won the game, 3-2. Koosman came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters. Bill Gullickson got credit for the win, improving to 9-13. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.2 innings. Tyler Clippard wrapped it up, recording his 31st save.
Washington used the hitting of Juan Soto to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Nationals on top, 3-0. For the game, Soto had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"It was a hard game, a hard night," said New York skipper .
Washington, now 65-83, holds down last place in the National League Eastern Division.
