Boston Red Sox starter Dutch H Leonard pitched his team past the Kansas City Royals in 10 innings, 4-2. Getting the save was Jonathan Papelbon, his 34th. Boston is now 78-71, Kansas City 78-70.

Boston used the timely hitting of Carl Yastrzemski to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

In postgame comments, Yastrzemski said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
