Late Rally Leads to 4-3 Athletics Triumph
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners.
The Oakland Athletics knocked off the Seattle Mariners, 4-3, at Safeco Field. Jimmie Foxx was a big reason Oakland won. The first baseman was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Vida Blue notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now sits at 8-0. Dennis Eckersley finished to wrap up his 45th save.
Foxx had a timely hit for Oakland in the top of the eighth. With Oakland trailing 3-2, he turned a 0-1 slider into a 2-run home run. It was his 22nd home run of the season, making it 4-3, Oakland.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Foxx.
The first-place Athletics go to 85-63.
