Rangers Edged by Braves, 4-1
|
Texas got a terrific performance from pitcher Nolan Ryan, but it wasn't enough to beat the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta won the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington contest, 4-1. Ryan threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Warren Spahn was the winner. Over 8 innings, he yielded 1 run on 7 hits, with no walks and 6 strikeouts. Craig Kimbrel wrapped it up, recording his 30th save.
Marcus Giles delivered a big hit for Atlanta. The second baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Braves ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
"We scored more than enough runs this time," said Atlanta manager . "Now watch. The next game we'll probably struggle to get a base hit."
The Braves now own a record of 82-65.
